The Game
Sea Commander is a two (2) to six (6) player board game for ages 10-Crypt Keeper. It is played on a large, hexagonal board comprised of 6 triangular tile pieces that can be rotated and reconfigured for a new gaming experience each time. As the player, you command a fleet of three mighty warships - a Corvette, a Frigate, and of course, your Flagship. Each has different movement, carrying capacity and attack bonuses. The goal is to sail about the ocean and explore the islands with your deployable crew, all in search of enough treasure to return home victorious!
In this unique game, you travel on triangular spaces to reach your destination. This allows for more options and trickier maneuvers when navigating spaces and avoiding enemies.
There are 60 unique action cards (Fish Cards) which provide a wide range of bonuses and impedements, making it a gamble to pick one up, but can often be your savior in times of crisis.
The ultimate goal of the game is to collect the various treasure tokens that are placed throughout the world. But beware there as well, fore there are traps and dangerous animals hiding beneath some of those which can potentially eliminate explorers and even entire ships! Its a dangerous world out there, so beware!
You will also find various special objects as you explore this world. Though nothing is guaranteed, you may run across a Lighthouse, a Cannon, a Rowboat, and even the Fountain of Youth! There are also cards which grant you the use of a blockade to help control the seas.
Beware though! As you sail around and explore on foot, your neighbors are too. You are all fighting for limited resources, and there may be hostilities if you encroach on someone else's domain... hostilites that may end in one of you losing treasure, explorers or even your ships. Ships whose crew members have all been eliminated drift at sea until someone comes along and claims them... which could be you, or it could be your enemy. Either way, each ship is also worth a certain number of victory points, as well as adds a valuable addition to your fleet, and makes it faster to collect treasure and win the game.
Keep in mind that once you have enough points to win, you must first return to your home port with all of your explorers, ships and treasure before you can actually claim victory. It will pay to be subtle, else you might find some enemies on your tail trying to keep you from your home!
All of this and more can be found in Sea Commander: A Game of Exploration and Adventure, and Commanding the Seas!
